General Requirements

Uber Driving Requirements

  1.  Must be 21 to 23 years of age or older (Depending on your city) with 3 years of driving experience.
  2. A valid state issued driver’s license. (If you have moved from another state, keep your out-of-state driver’s license because you may need it to verify your driving history.
  3. A valid Social Security Number for a background check. You must pass the background check, which typically takes a few days.  In order to pass, you must have a clean driving record and be free of the following within the last 7 years:
  •  Any DUI or drug related offense
  • Incidents of driving without insurance or driver’s license
  • Fatal accidents
  • A history of reckless driving
  • Criminal history

New York City Drivers and Residents, in addition to the general requirements, must obtain:

  • A commercial driver’s license from the NYC TLC (New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission).
  • A commercially licensed vehicle that you own or are renting from a partner company.

Car Requirements

 

Your vehicle must:

  • Be 4 Door Sedan, able to seat 4 or more passengers outside of driver
  • Generally, be a make within the last 10 years. (For example, as of 2017, cars must be 2007 or newer.  This may vary by city or state)
  • Have in-state License Plates (Commercial TLC Plates in NYC)
  • Pass the Uber Inspection
  • Not be marked, salvaged, or a taxi vehicles
